Todd Wilbur the fraud

I got excited when i found in this book the "secret" to Sabra's hummus.  I love Sabra's hummus so much, i long for it in periods of absence.  So i tried it out tonite.  while it does make a tasty hummus, it tastes NOTHING like Sabra.  And to boot, i had to add more spices to the recipe because if you follow it to a tea, it's rather bland.  So, either Todd Wilbur has never tried Sabra's hummus,  or his taste buds were fried off when he stuck a fork into the electrical socket to try and give Popeye's Cajun gravy the zing it was missing.  Either way, i am less than enthusiastic to try any other recipes from this so-called "clone book"

My new driving buddy.

Today we got in two Neil Gaiman books on cd, M is for magic and Interworld, neither of which i have read yet.  Since my commute takes me sometimes up to 45 mins, i thought it'd be a great way to not get completely frusterated in traffic.  And they're read by Neil himself, so if i close my eyes it's almost like he's riding in the car with me reading me stories.  however, if i close my eyes i'm more likely to get in an accident.  It is a life long goal of mine to one day get a restraining order from Neil.  So far i've been in the same building as him once, and i found out what town he lives in.  I also stalk him on Twitter and have a little map that i draw out his touring on.  That last part is a lie, but now that im thinking about it, i do have that large wall map in the closet...

Here's a really cute picture of my bunny sitting on books.  I'm not sure why she likes doing this, but she sits on my comics all the time.

I had totally meant to start a painting today.  Judith Schaechter had a saying that if you see something you like, forget that you ever saw it.  I saw this painting that is actually very similar in content to one J and had started, but so much better, so i meant to get crackin on that, but it just seems that every time i get inspired to start painting or drawing, something gets in the way.  tonite it was baking cookies and hair bleaching, both which turned out successful, i might add.  it was nice and decompressing, and since tomorrow is my day off, and j is building a bike all afternoon, maybe the creative bug will bite me again. one day i'll get a painting done.

Cassette tapes!

I did a buy today with about 200 rockin cassette tapes.  It made me seriously nostalgic.  Not that listening to cassettes is anything to write home about.  It certainly doesn't compare with the quality of lps and even digital media, there's just something special about things that come in cartridges.  like a little package of music.  same way with cartridge games.  I love my sega and n64.  CDs are so impersonal.

The quest for the perfect spring roll

The urge struck me today where i wanted a spring roll, but not just any spring roll. The perfect spring roll. I had found it quite by accident while in ohio. The place was PS thai tai at 1577 King Ave, and they had the perfect spring roll. For a buck fifty you got a mini burrito style fresh spring roll with dipping sauce. It was right down the street from the studio where i worked (all the time) so i used to drive down there and for 5 bucks i had 3 huge spring rolls to last me through the nites. They were so amazing, i dream of them still. MMMM. ps thai. anyway, i haven't found anything that compares to ps thai rolls here. everywhere i go they are either maki style and size, or cut in half, or too small, or bland ect. i just can't find one to quench my spring roll craving. So starts my documentation and critique of local thai spring rolls and the official start to my active quest. Up til now i have been passively searching. Now it's serious because I refuse to believe that anything in columbus can be better than here in chicago. Check back for spring roll updates.
